Backset CalculatorTwo questions, about a minute — find the exact mortise for your door

Two questions, about a minute. Keep a tape measure handy.

How to measure the backset, borehole, door thickness and stile width on an Australian door
1Your door

Where is this lock going?

The gate lock suits that better

This is a door lock. For a gate, our SL-G1 has a 34 mm panel made for narrow gate uprights and fingerprint readers on both sides.

2Your measurement

Measure from the faceplate of your existing mortise to the centre of the square spindle hole. What does it read?

Order the 6085 mortise

60 mm backset, 85 mm centres. This is the one most Australian doors take.

Order the 4585 mortise

45 mm backset, 85 mm centres.

Order the 3585 mortise

If your door slides, order the 3585 hook bolt version instead — a straight bolt will not hold on a slider.

Order the 2885 mortise

If your door slides, order the 2885 hook bolt version instead.

You need a hook bolt

A straight bolt has nothing to grip on a sliding door. Measure your backset, then order the hook bolt version of that size — 2885 hook or 3585 hook.

Measure the mortise, not the door

Measure from the faceplate to the centre of the square spindle hole. The sizing guide shows it with a diagram.

Not sure at any point? Open the full sizing guide, or email us a photo of your door edge with a tape measure across it and we will tell you exactly what to order.

Guides and installation

Check the size, then follow the guide

Every dimension that matters is on the drawing: 353 mm overall, a 35 mm front panel, 23 mm at the rear and 85 mm between centres. Check those against your door, then pick the mortise size — the four-digit code is a measurement, not a style.

Read this before you order

Batteries are not included. Four AA alkaline cells. Buy them with the lock so you are not stuck on installation day.

The two published door thickness figures disagree. The specification says 45–70 mm, the fitting notes say 40–55 mm. Where they overlap — 45 to 55 mm — you are safe. Outside that, message us and we will confirm with the manufacturer before you order.

The mortise code is not decoration. Ordering 4585 for a 60 mm backset door will not fit, and no amount of adjusting will make it. Measure first.

Remote access needs the G2 gateway, sold separately.

Australian doors are usually 60 mm backset. Unless you have measured otherwise, 6085 is the option you want.

No Australian certification. Ask us before ordering if you need compliance paperwork for a strata or commercial fit-out.

TTLock app features: controlled access with permanent, temporary and time-limited codes, activity log, remote unlocking and managing multiple locks

Questions people ask about this lock

Fitting and measurement questions in depth live in the sizing guide. How to choose between our five types is in the buying guide.

Which option should I pick if I have not measured?

Do not pick one — measure first. But if your door is a standard Australian hinged timber entry door, 6085 is almost certainly it.

What is the difference between this and the short Push/Pull Handle model?

Handle length. This one is long, for full-width timber and framed glass doors. The Push/Pull Handle model is short, for narrow aluminium stiles and sliding doors where a long handle would foul the frame.

What is a hook bolt and do I need one?

It is a bolt that swings out and hooks into the door jamb instead of sliding straight in. Sliding doors need it; hinged doors do not.

Can it go on an exposed front door?

Yes. IP66 with waterproof rubbers supplied. It is one of only two locks in our range rated for weather.

Does it work with Apple Home?

No. TTLock, with Alexa support through the gateway. No Apple Home or Matter.

Can I fit it myself?

If you are replacing a like-for-like mortise, yes. If you are changing mortise size or cutting fresh, get a locksmith — the mortise pocket has to be cut accurately.
